Since 2006, Fight Like a Girl has hosted online and special events to drive charitable donations to support Breast and Cervical Cancer research. Each October FLAG plays host to hundreds of gamers and raises thousands of dollars for charity. Most recently, FLAG staffers set up shop at Halofest, raising $2100 for charity.

Halofest – PAX 2011

FLAG was in the thick of the action at Penny Arcade Expo with a booth at 343 Industries’ Halofest. Members of the FLAG team were on hand to run The Hopper, a booth equipped with 16 Xbox 360 consoles featuring Halo: Anniversary content. The Hopper gave fans’ their first chance to preview classic Halo: CE maps and gametypes coming November 2011.

The Hopper was the place to be at Halofest, featuring casual free-play and special events. Over the course of the long weekend at PAX the FLAG team ran several events: 4v4 Slayer, 4v4 Capture the Flag, Halo: Reach Racing and Forge contests.

Upon receiving an unexpected influx of prizes, FLAG team members split into two teams and matched up against Halofest-goers in a 4v4 slayer match for Halo 3 consoles. While one FLAG team met an unfortunate demise shortly into the contest, the other remained undefeated for nearly an hour against the masses. Finally, a group of four friends emerged to unseat the staff members by using a combination of teamwork and DMR-proficiency.

On the final day of PAX, FLAG made it rain prizes during the Firefight event for charity, where participants played to better each other’s scores, racking up huge points in the Halo: Reach’s Firefight mode. Players made a $10 donation in exchange for one attempt at a high score, with several choosing to donate numerous times in order to make multiple attempts on the top score. This event raised a stunning $2100 to benefit breast cancer research.

FLAG 2010

In our most successful year yet, FLAG raised $7,000 to benefit breast and cervical cancer research. With more events than ever, including free-for-all, 4v4 and 2v2 slayer, there was something for everyone. Bungie had yet another strong showing, participating by playing with charitable members of the community.
