About Fight Like a Girl

THE DON WAN - Kari Toyama

The Fight Like A Girl Tournament, or FLAG for short, is an annual Halo tournament that raises money and awareness for breast and cervical cancer research. Every year, hundreds of gamers come together one weekend in October to have fun, play some games, and donate to our cause.

Organizers Kari Toyama (THE DON WAN) and Tasha Pettengill (Zoom Demon) have organized this tournament since 2006.

FLAG is played every October during breast cancer awareness month. 100% of all entry fees and donations are sent directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Cervical Cancer Coalition. The Halo franchise is the foundation of this tournament and we are eternally grateful to Bungie for their amazing games and continued support. Our very first tournament in 2006 was a Halo 2 tournament in which we raised $777 (Bungie’s favorite number!). Since then, we have had tournaments in Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and now have added another game to the list, Halo: Reach. To date, we have raised over $22,000 for breast and cervical cancer research.

Zoom Demon - Tasha Pettengill

Our mission is two-fold. Not only do we do this tournament to raise money and awareness for finding a cure to cancer, but also to show the public that gamers are kind and generous people. We would like to thank you for your generosity, love, and support over the years and ask that you please continue to share your stories with us, we love to be reminded why we do this every year. Let’s finish this fight!
